He did tell me that. His Spirit testifies with me that it is true. :)

And its not like god is always telling mortal men how great it is

Actually, He does this very thing. He says things like we will meet Him in paradise and that those who believe will be rewarded in the afterlife and that He has prepared for us things that we cannot even begin to imagine.

You don't, because you can't be certain of anything. All you can go on in the overall perspective of things is faith. At some point within our lives we choose to rely on some sort of determining factor for what is true and what is false. From those factors come many ideas and interpretations of the world. Some are more viable than others... but everything comes down to faith. So for Christians to determine truth, we generally rely on the Bible to be the determining factor of what is true and what in not true... that what makes us "Christians" because we have faith in Jesus. From that we get many different interpretation of what the Bible means. We perceive things differently because after choosing to determine truth by the Bible, we then choose another factor in how to determine the truth of the Bible. Every factor that we come across requires faith. How do we acquire faith? That is subjective as well.

No, people misinterpret God all the time. I might be wrong, you might be wrong, my neighbor down the street might be wrong.

We can understand the things that God tells us but nothing more.

If God was small enough for us to understand Him then He would not be God.

Everything comes down to faith. At some point within our lives we all choose to evaluate the world through some sort of means. Some of these means are the Bible, while some of these means involves reason. However, regardless of what type of means you choose to evaluate the world with, you cannot use the very thing that you have chosen for evaluation to give credibility to the means. That is to say, myself using the Bible to advocate the Bible. Continued, it is to say that reason cannot be used to advocate reason. An outside source from your means of evaluation must be used to advocate and give credibility to your means. Therefore, faith is in everything that involves some sort of worldview. I have faith in the Bible. Others have faith in reason. It is when a source that is hostile to your means, advocates your means that one can fully trust that very thing you have so much faith in.
