There's a wideness in God's mercy
I consider the wonderful nature of God's mercy, and the tender healing He brings to lost and sinful humankind. If God's divine justice were to fall on humankind today, it would be only just, yet, God provides mercy and pardon to each and every sinner who will repent from sin and submit to Him.
"There's a wideness in God's mercy
like the wideness of the sea;
there's a kindness in his justice,
which is more than liberty.
There is welcome for the sinner,
and more graces for the good;
there is mercy with the Savior;
there is healing in his blood."
Some would invalidly accuse God because evil exists and at present holds a terrible influence in the world. Some would imply that God is distant, uncaring and not concerned about the terrible and miserable estate of sinful humankind, but that is not true:
"There is no place where earth's sorrows
are more felt than in heaven;
there is no place where earth's failings
have such kind judgment given.
There is plentiful redemption
in the blood that has been shed;
there is joy for all the members
in the sorrows of the Head."
In posts on forums, sometimes accusations are made against God, often using the standard of personal appeal to imply that He doesn't meet some prescribed standard, but typically it is the adequacy of the standard itself that is compromised:
"For the love of God is broader
than the measure of man's mind;
and the heart of the Eternal
is most wonderfully kind.
If our love were but more faithful,
we should take him at his word;
and our life would be thanksgiving
for the goodness of the Lord. "

May the wideness of God's wonderful and tender love bring peace to your souls.
